Alan Watson – Wedding Dancing Instructor

Originally from Saint Paul, Minnesota, Alan has been dancing since he was 13.  Now in New York City, Alan is an accomplished dance instructor, teaching beginners how to dance for nearly a decade.  He teaches hip hop dance at PMT Dance Studio, Tisch School of the Arts at NYU and guest faculty at Broadway Dance Center.  His expertise has made him an expert in helping even the most uncoordinated person look and feel more confident.

“Alan worked with us to develop a routine for our first dance at our barn/farm wedding. While my wife can dance, I’m an enthusiastic but awkward dancer. Alan developed the perfect choreography including editing the song to make us both look good. Most importantly, dance lessons with Alan were fun and an escape from stresses of wedding planning!”-Nikhil T.
After teaching hundreds of classes and thousands of students, Alan has found the best approaches to help absolute beginners learn to dance. His online dance videos feature practical lessons on how to feel more comfortable on the dance floor.
No stranger to the competitive dance scene, Alan competed in dance battles and competitions across the country. Most recently, Alan took home the 1 on 1 Locking title at “Compete to the Beat” 2013 judged by the creator of locking, Don Campbell.
Commercially Alan has performed on the TODAY Show three different times.  The first time dancing Vanilla Ice and most recent as part of PMT Dance Studio’s Record Breaking “Largest Street Dance.”  Additionally he has performed in various music videos with recording artists such as Matt Palmer (“I Wish”), Jen Kwok (“Date an Asian”), Green Street (“Time Won’t Change Us”).  Alan’s abilities have allowed him to work with Superfly Productions, JetBlue, MTV’s Party for the People, and POON Productions, just to name a few. Alan has taught Hip Hop Dance at NYU, New York Public Schools, Legacy Dance (Minnesota), and in his 9th year as a Faculty Member at PMT Dance Studio in New York City. He is a Principal Dancer and Choreographer for PMT Dance Company and has performed in various venues with the company, including Alvin Ailey’s Citigroup Theater, the Pearl Theater, the CNE in Toronto, Canada, and the International Dance Festival in New York City.

This year marks the 3rd time I’ve appeared on the TODAY Show.  This was a fantastic experience working with PMT Dance Studio to break the Guinness World Record for Largest Street Dance!

We brought together 253 people, and had to make a 5 minute hip hop dance.  One of the main stipulations was that it had to be continuous, without stopping, for 5 whole minutes.

The whole process took about a week of rehearsing in small groups. The dance (choreographed by Pavan Thimmaiah), was first taught to PMT’s faculty and company (myself included), who helped teach it to small groups over Labor Day weekend.

Here’s the video!  If you look closely you can see the Easy Weddding Dancing Logo on the back of some of the shirts 🙂
